The position of Chief Credit Officer directs, manages, organizes, and supervises the centralized loan administration activities of the bank, and ensures the maintenance of the highest level of quality and profitability of the bank’s loan portfolio. Defines the strategy for the Bank’s loan portfolio, including long-term strategic development of lending practices, policies, and objectives. Formulate, review, and approve lending policies and procedures. Develops methods to evaluate the overall loan portfolio, including risk ratings assigned to individual credits. Responsible for credit/loan policy and administration. Works with Regional Presidents and Credit staff to assess the overall soundness of the loan portfolio. In collaboration with the Executive team establish the vision and define the organization-wide strategic imperatives to support the Bank’s success and growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities are intended to describe those functions that are essential to the performance of this position.
Evaluates and monitors overall loan portfolio condition, including regular reports to the Board of Directors, manages overall portfolio analysis by defining, implementing, and continually evaluating quality standards for the Bank’s loan portfolio in accordance with good lending practices. Maintains and communicates Loan Policy and Guidelines. Establishes prudent and conservative underwriting standards, recommending adjustments to account for changing economic conditions, regulatory requirements, and portfolio mix.
Ensures and effective reporting operations, including problem credit identification, strategies, and status. Reviews and monitors improvement strategies through proactive restructuring, workout, and exit strategies for criticized, classified, and nonperforming loans. This process includes overall management of the Special Assets and OREO functions. Evaluates and monitors the condition of the overall loan portfolio. Consults with legal counsel, loan review, and compliance regularly to assure continued adherence to regulatory rules and expectations.
Monitors collection efforts for active charge-off credits. Serves as a resource for collection questions regarding bankruptcies, repossessions, and Other Real Estate Owned.
Provide strategic leadership to the leads of credit and loan operations. Lead, motivate and empower these areas to turn strategic initiatives into actionable and accountable behaviors.
Coordinate Bank’s credit teams and makes recommendations for changes or additions to programs, processes, or services. Ensure quality control, efficient processes, and quick turnaround through workflow management.
Coordinates with Regional Presidents on development of Loan Officers in structuring of complex credit requests to facilitate the personal development of staff and establish quality lending relationships consistent with the credit culture of Iowa State Bank.
Chair of the Loan Committee and assist with Executive Loan Committee.
Create and support an environment of collaboration throughout the organization.
Consult, advise, and participate in the Bank’s overall management by working with other senior management in committee, task force, and informal meeting environments to assure continuity, communication, and unity.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to provide leadership, supervision, and training on multiple employees.
Extensive credit background required, to include commercial, agricultural, and commercial real estate.
Understand the role of sales and customer service in a community bank and financial services environment.
Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and bank accounting policies and procedures.
Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others.
