A postdoctoral position is available in USDA Agricultural Research Service, San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Sciences Center (SJVASC), Water Management Research Unit, Parlier, CA. This position is to conduct research on carbon and nitrogen dynamics including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in orchards influenced by whole orchard recycling (WOR), which incorporates all tree biomass into soil.  The objective of the project is to determine the benefits of WOR to reduce GHG emissions, increase C storage and nutrients availability in soil, and improve orchard production using field and laboratory experiments and/or simulation models.  The candidate will work with University of California Cooperative Extension and other ARS collaborators. The position is a two-year appointment, subject to annual performance evaluation.  Individuals with experience especially on greenhouse emission and nutrient management and the desire to conduct field, lab, and/or modeling (e.g., DNDC) aspects are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in soil/environmental science or a related field. The position is to be filled with an individual who received his/her Ph.D. within 4 years of his/her entrance-on-duty date. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications (salary $69,107- $89,835 per year). U.S. Citizenship is required.
